DARK SKIES is an experiment in temporary community in a safe, secure, and low stress environment. We choose to trade in social capital rather than traditional means. Inside our event there is no money exchanged except for ICE at the front gate. DARK SKIES is a no in-out event, our participants get here and they stay here for the entire weekend. Dark Skies is a gift economy with a strong emphasis on volunteering and community activism. Through this we attain community self worth. Everyone brings something, everyone contributes, and then everyone cleans up. We take it upon ourselves to self regulate so that we will not be regulated from without but rather from within. There are no day passes sold for Dark Skies and we do not advertise the event, this is something very different. We take what we've learned on the Black Rock Desert at Burning Man and apply those values here in our local communities, in a responsible, ethical, legal, and appropriate manner. We have nothing to hide. We act as adults because we owe ourselves nothing less. Often the result is miraculous and wonderful and is anything but a clone of the Burning Man event.  This is happening all over the world right now, in local communities both Burner and traditional arts are coming together.  Not to sell tickets to Burning Man, but to make a positive difference right there where people live and to take that playa spirit global. Burners Without Borders is but one example of that happening. The entire Burning Man Regional Network is another.

We've learned; That is there in that time on the Black Rock, this is the here and now. This is IMMEDIATE and THIS IS REAL.

DARK SKIES is about ART. In this case that art may be something very different from what most of us consider traditional ART. The beauty of this is that all are welcome within our community and all are valid. We seek to create an environment where many of the trappings of normal life fall away. Leave your keys and wallet in your car for the weekend, drink plenty of water, and have a great time, then clean up any mess you might have made. But you didn't leave any mess because you were leaving no trace as you go and never letting it hit the ground. This is not merely a 'party', this is something more, this is different. This is a community of adults watching out for each other and supporting each other's ART. Experience has shown that if even a simple majority does this the event is mind blowing, and if everyone does it it's unstoppable and many great things can be done.

That's part of what we learned on the Black Rock.

There's a reason people drive 12 hours or fly across the country to go to regional events.  

We believe it's because you cannot get this feeling anywhere else.

It simply cannot be described in words...........

 What can be described in words however are tickets sales!  Dark Skies has no vending and no commercial sales of any kind. Our ONLY source of revenue for this event is ticket sales. The median price for a ticket to this event is around $90. Every ticket sold for MORE than that offsets the tickets that are sold for LESS than that. Every time we GIFT a ticket or DISCOUNT a ticket to a needy or deserving artist it COSTS us MONEY and it costs YOU money. We pay our venue based on number of heads on site, so every WORKING PERSONNEL we have on site costs us money as well. This ALL comes out of the money that is funded by YOUR PURCHASE of a ticket from this page. 

Ultimately therefore, it is YOU THE COMMUNITY that will decide weather or not you want to see this (and other regional events) continue. Your purchase of a ticket, and then your volunteering on site is what drives this machine and makes this sustainable and repeatable. Many events’ have come and gone, and this one may too, but that is going to be up to YOU. Put quite simply: If YOU don’t buy a ticket to DARK SKIES, then DARK SKIES may not continue.

This is not guilt, this is the reality of event production in a safe responsible and legal way in the 21st century.

If it came in a can everyone would be doing it, and they’re not. This is not easy but it IS a lot of FUN! 

So, we are asking you to purchase the most expensive ticket you can afford from the next page so that the less fortunate in our community can perhaps afford to come.
We really DO WANT EVERYONE THERE but as was stated above; this doesn’t happen for free.
